Matching the name "leopard", you can see dark-colored dots all over their body like leopard cats. The appearance is a great camouflage, allowing them to hide from snake, foxes or other animals to take a good bite in them. Additionally, note that they have eyelids to protect their eyes from the dust, which is not a common feature for lizards. Another memorable characteristic is their tails, which they use to store fats, serving them in a way like a camel's hump. Like most lizards, their tails do regenerate after being dropped off in severe injuries. Lastly, leopard geckos shed their skin like most reptiles. An adult sheds approximately once a month and a baby, on the other hand, grows faster thus would shed more frequently.  

  As I mentioned, this animal, unlike most lizards, is not a good climber. instead of having toe pads, they have these tiny paws with slim fingers. Nevertheless, you'd be surprised at how fast they can run. Normally they move rather slowly in comparison to other wild lizards, but once they feel threatened or intimidated, you might catch them running 30 mph! Moreover, they have keen hearings and eyesight to help avoid predators. Their sense of smell is also a strong trait, for the most part, a leopard gecko held captive as a pet could recognize the smell of their owner as a sign that food is coming.

  To sum up, these amazing creatures are no less a pet than other domesticated species. They have truly enriched my life with their presence and given me a chance to be their companion. Finally, I'd like to mention that no matter what kind of animal you want to keep as a pet, be sure to do enough research and find legal breeders or try to adopt. Your pet may only be one part of your life, but you are everything to them and all lives deserve to be well-treated.
